After Dawrish: Other Fragments
And this is all to say that I have loved reading Darwish’s poetry. It is my opinion that he may be one of the world’s best poets. Of course, it is not every single poem of his that made a mark on me, but his poetry does what I don’t find very much in other contemporary poetry. His work is a step closer to offering wisdom; whereas, in other work, I find mere creative reporting of things.
Indomitable

"Tell Me How You Die": On Life and Sleep

“Tell me how you die and I will tell you who you are”
“Tell me how you lived your dream… and I’ll tell you who you are” What is happening here? In each case, Paz or Darwish is explaining the ability to identify and know someone based on how they either die or live their dream.
Untitled (Eternity)
Embracing the image of it, I let it conjure up questions and remarks in my mind. How should I understand this thing? What is the relevance of these numbers? Is 2014 a year? When did the artist die? I noted the card on the wall: this piece was named: Untitled (Bolsena). And immediately, I thought: “OH, COM’ON.”
