82/100 An Early Snow in Cambridge

A Different Moment from My Boston Life

I recall a beautiful moment from my past life. As I wrote in another post of my Boston life, that city hosted some of the most difficult moments I’ve yet known.

Again, I thank it and now turn to a moment that I find to be beautiful for its simplicity.

On October 30, 2020, it snowed in Cambridge.

This one of the earliest snows in Boston history. At this point in the year, the fall leaves were still falling, unready for the snow. The cold was early and heavy this morning. It seem to me that much of Cambridge can be described to me as a quiet neighborhood, but it is especially so around Harvard Square where we lived.

Because the leaves hadn’t fallen yet, they were quite full. So when the snow fell, the trees were ready to hold the snow. It burdened them and sank low their branches over the sidewalks.

I have come to adore snow. Coming from Southern California, I find that snow brings with it a special kind of quiet and peace. All sound is absorbed by this, and the world is a little more muted than before. It is, at last, a quiet space, and I love the snow for this gift.

Nick, my ex, and I walked the snow as it fell, and in the morning, we took a walk through the old town. In one of the squares of the Harvard campuses, I took this simple picture.

I was reminded of this by Google Photos and post it on the anniversary. Why not celebrate this?

More soon,

Trevor
