99/100 The Unstoppable Power of Curiosity

The Core of Empathy, Innovation, and Drive

If there is one thing I’m known for it is my curiosity. Actually, to share with you one of the best, if not the best, compliments I’ve ever received: I was once described as “the intensity of gentle curiosity.” Thank you, Andrea Lipton.

Thinking of this makes me feel powerful (and seen), but it also clarifies something that I uniquely bring to a space. I bring questions; I bring wonder; I bring newness; I bring clarity.

I think these are priceless things all brought about by attention and questioning.

When I consider what is the core driving element of critical things like empathy, innovation, or drive, I see curiosity underneath all of them. Every person, every business, every relationship needs more curiosity because the problems that require empathy, innovation, or drive are endless. Thus something unstoppable is necessary here. Knowing how to ask a question is one thing, but learning how to practice curiosity is a different thing.

In the spirit of a near-parting message (day 99, after all), I want you to try something of your own challenge: pick a specific, repeatable time (e.g. 20 minutes each Friday at 9am) for the next 4 weeks to reflect on something that you found interesting or questioned and wonder why that might be.

More soon,

Trevor
