92/100 Books People Have Given Me Pt. 5

Sapiens

This has been a nice micro series in this whole 100 day experiment, and I want to close it out with one more precious moment.

My dear friend Autumn has been a pillar of light for me and is one of my longest friendships of my life. This alone is its own celebration, and I cherish it deeply.

But here is someone who has seen my doubts and desires grow and change over years, who has watched me achieve small and amazing things. She was already well traveled when it was time for me to have my first trip to Europe. Anxious for the moment, I called on her for help, and we took a walk to a little bridge at the far end of my neighborhood. That was a blessing for good voyage and for rich discovery.

We’ve shared love for music, ideas, and languages along with stories of travel, moving away from home, and the basic joys of taking a walk.

In one of my first visits back to California from DC, we found time to catch up for lunch. We went to the coast and drove around the beach. Before leaving, she gave me Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari.

Here is the compliment I received in this: “This is a smart book, so it’s right up your alley. You would love this.”

What a wonderful thing to be seen for the thing you value the most. I love learning; I love reading; I love thinking about things; and I love sharing things I learn or struggle with learning.

I have been seen. Thank you, Autumn.

More soon,

Trevor
