87/100 A Story of a Story of Fighting

Saying Unclear and Important Things

I often try to make sure there is a framing to these pieces, that here is a kind of scope or focus to these pieces.

I think this one is more open than most, but I want to say it nonetheless.

I remember a specific time I was with my youngest sister. I took the train from Orange to Fullerton and we met for lunch. For various reasons, I felt it was important to discuss the idea of fighting for something, a value, and for fighting against something, obscurity.

After our lunch, I led us on a walk into the neighborhood. I wanted a physical reference for the hero of the story, my cherished friend, Giordano. A few years before this walk, he visited for a conference at my school. I showed my sister the place where he stayed with couchsurfing.com.

I would later stay with Giordano in my 100 days of solo travel. I saw his hometown, a small place on a hill where the biggest future that it could provide was its proximity to factories where air conditioning or washing machines were made. It was also a region known for its leather works. For some this is a fine path. For others, it is not. Giordano is this type.

The lesson I wanted to express to my sister then was how small and subtle resistance to normalcy can be. My dear friend studies literature, languages, punk subculture, philosophy, and so much more. In these practices, I see a quiet furry against the destiny promised him by his home.

Fighting to stay alive, fighting for a future is often a small practice; it can show in a sense of dedication or aspiration.

More soon,

Trevor
