Marco and MLK Jr. Memorial Library
I was here with Marco just before New Year’s Eve 2021. We often study together, and I love our friendship. He was chasing some ideas in anthropology, and I was reading on business, trying to decide what would become of PRONTO.
This branch of the library was newly renovated; it is a total victory for us to have a space like this for the community. Libraries are totally underrated in US culture.
We ended our study session on the terrace. Our conversation turned towards the new year. Marco broke out his sketch pad and a marker and wrote “maintaining perspective,” on the top of our page.
We took turns boldly writing what we wanted this next year. We both wanted to keep learning. Curiosity is such a thing that it can express love; learning about the world is to also love it.
In the spirit of that refrain, I’m accepting that writing 100 words for 100 days is a victory in perspective. My eventual goal of becoming a paid writer / philosopher / poet is just that: eventual.
More soon,
Trevor
